Winter Whispers on display at Gallery One through Feb. 25

January 17, 2014

Gallery One announces its first show of 2014, Winter Whispers, which runs through Feb. 25.

Visitors are guaranteed to see a wide range of interpretations of this theme. All of the 15 artists represented have their own experiences, styles and media that influence them.

In “Winter Silence," an oil, Lesley McCaskill shows a snow-covered farm field with a simple but solid farmhouse that has survived several centuries in Magnolia. McCaskill has used a subtle palette of grays, lavender and rose to show the Zen quality of the winter scene.

Using collage, Peggy Warfield has created a contemporary piece that is reminiscent of an Oriental scroll in a long vertical format that shows a blanket of snow and empty woods that suggest the hush of  birdsong and the silence of the cold when the world is “Quiet.”

Laura Hickman is showing a pastel, ”Winter Light." This is a view of her parents' garage in the early morning. Magically, this simple building glows with radiant color, and the sun sheds warmth over the snow-covered landscape with interesting shadows.

The landscape near the water has inspired several of the artists.

“Flurries Likely,” an acrylic by Joyce Condry, shows the surf and sky almost as one horizontal of gray-blue that is sprinkled with a dusting of fresh falling snow and foam from the breaking waves.

“Winter Day” by Dale Sheldon is painted in a high key tone that celebrates a cold, quiet day on Silver Lake in Rehoboth Beach. The resident heron wades near the shore as snow begins to fall.

These are just a few of the art works that will be on display at Gallery One.

The public is invited to visit Gallery One to view this show and see the other art works by the 15 gallery artists and browse the fine craft room devoted to fine art jewelry, pottery, textiles, wood, and glass.

Gallery One is always staffed by one of the artists and is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Gallery One is at 32 Atlantic Ave. (Route 26) in Ocean View just a short drive west of Bethany Beach.
