Patricia Ann Sunday, loving wife, mother

Patricia Ann (Patty) Sunday, 68, a resident of Lewes and formerly of Brewster, N.Y., passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at her home.

Daughter of the late Wendell Egbert Kerner and Ruth (Burmingham) Kerner, she was born May 13, 1945, in Chatham, N.Y. She attended the St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic School and graduated from Brewster High School. After high school, she attended the Berkeley Secretarial School in White Plains, N.Y.

Patty enjoyed a career as an office assistant/ account manager, eventually retiring from the Putnam County Department of Social Services in Carmel, N.Y. After retirement, she and her husband Bill relocated to Lewes, where Patty soon built a network of community friends. She enjoyed spending time in the sun with friends at the pool, cruising on a friend’s boat to one of the beaches off Herring Creek and having dinner with friends. Most of all, she loved visiting and celebrating with family. Patty’s grandchildren meant the world to her and her family always came first. Patty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, granddaughter and sister-in-law, a hard-working colleague and loyal friend who left her mark on all those with whom she came in contact.

Patty is survived by her husband, Peter W. (Bill) Sunday; her two children, James Sunday and his wife Jennifer of Poughquag, N.Y. and Lynn Sunday Racz and her husband John of West Hartford, Conn.; her brother James Kerner and wife Nancy of Brunswick, Maine; and her six grandchildren, Patrick, Colin and Brendan Sunday and Shannon, Olivia and Julia Racz.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patty’s memory to the Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis TN.
