Mary Ann LaLave, Possums actress

Mary Ann Barbarette LaLave, 68, of Millsboro, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014.

Mary Ann was born in Hazelton, Pa., June 15, 1945, to the late Dominic and Frances Giacamarro Barbarette. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Marlene Ostroff.

Mary Ann spent a lifetime accompanying her husband in his government service all over the world throughout their marriage. She was a member of Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Chuch where she was active in the church choir, and also a member of the Cursillos group. She travelled annually on a military group pilgrimage to Our Lady of Lourdes. She was active in the Military Theater Productions and the Possum Point Players where she was a reader, accomplished actor and skilled in set construction. She enjoyed travelling with her husband on school vacations where they travelled across Europe.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, John E. LaLave of Millsboro; two daughters, Jeannine LaLave of Linwood, N.J., and Jessica LaLave of Millsboro; a niece, Melissa Ostroff-Gundrum who is now considered a beloved adopted daughter; and six grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, William, Brooke, Paula and Julia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m., at Mary Mother of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, near Oak Orchard, where friends may call after 10:15 a.m.  The Rev. L. James Downs will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Drums, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Possum Point Players, PO Box 96, Georgetown, DE 19947.
