John Carlton Larsen, 93, of Milton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born in Marinette, Wis., June 26, 1920, son of the late John P. and Anna Emelia (Andersen) Larsen.
Mr. Larsen served his country proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard manning a lighthouse in the waters off Maine. After his service in the Coast Guard, he took up the trade of carpentry and became a home builder for many years. Mr. Larsen continued his career as a manager of facilities and maintenance at Baltimore County Public Schools in Baltimore, Md. He was also an active member of the Lions Club International, the American Legion and New Life Thrift Shop. Mr. Larsen will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a dear friend by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Larsen was preceded in death by his loving wife whom he wed Jan. 25, 1946, Mary Susan (Collins) Larsen; and his two siblings, Pearl Kerr and Tom Larsen. He is survived by two sons: James E. Larsen and his wife Margaret of Cool Spring, and Doug C. Larsen and his wife Louise of Baltimore; a daughter, Judy Hillman and her late husband Timothy of Timonium, Md.; five grandchildren: Stacy Larsen Brewer, Collen Kelbaugh, Daniel S. Wilson, Douglas C. Wilson and Samuel C. Hillman; nine great-grandchildren that he adored dearly; and his siblings, Elmer Larsen and Jean Davis.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach; a reception will follow services. Interment will be private.
