Renowned soprano to perform Feb. 16 at St. George's Chapel

Recital to celebrate Black History Month
January 19, 2014

The Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel invites the wider community to its annual recital in celebration of Black History Month.  This year’s performance, scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 16, at St. George's Chapel, 20174 Beaver Dam Road, Route 23, Harbeson, features Dr. Caroline G. Gibson, a renowned soprano from Washington, D.C.  She will be joined by U.S. Army Chorus bass soloist Alvy Powell, who left the audience speechless with his moving recital last year.

Gibson has embarked on solo concert tours throughout Europe, Mexico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and her performance venues include the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall.  Her performance in “Porgy and Bess” has inspired critical acclaim.

Powell is an active-duty soldier who sings for national events, presidents and visiting international dignitaries, and has toured extensively, singing the part of Porgy.

They will be accompanied by Doug Yetter, artistic director of Clear Space Theatre Company in Rehoboth Beach.

Gibson will perform works by Handel, Mahler, Fauré, Mozart, Verdi, Frank Bridge and J. Rosamond Johnson, among others.  A reception will follow the recital. A free-will offering will be taken.  For more information call 302-227-7202 or go to www.stgeorgeschapel.org.
