Christopher Johnson, enjoyed surf fishing

January 21, 2014

Christopher Johnson, 64, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes. He was born in Wantagh, N.Y., son of James J. and the late Dorothy (Apel) Johnson.

Christopher, who was affectionately known as “Cheese” or “Lenny” to family and friends, enjoyed tending his garden and surf fishing locally. Forever the practical joker, he loved pulling pranks on friends and family. He could tell jokes endlessly and always had time for sharing a good story. Cheese’s other interests were playing darts with the Funsters dart league and throwing a few horseshoes with friends.

A true “people person,” Cheese enjoyed meeting his friends for Happy Hour at The Wharf, where they would exchange a few laughs and stories. An avid New York Yankees fan, Cheese never missed an opportunity to root his team to victory! His love of baseball led him to manage his daughters' Little League team, where he enjoyed sharing his love of the game.

Cheese is survived by his wife, Christina (Donofrio); his two daughters who were his pride and joy through and through: Jaime and Jessica Marie Johnson of Lewes; his granddaughter: Taylor Elizabeth Johnson of Lewes; six brothers: James Johnson Jr. and wife Nellie of Spring, Texas; Greg Johnson of Long Island, N.Y.; Tim Johnson and wife Nancy of Houston, Texas; Dave Johnson of Nevis, West Indies; Kerry “Merv” Johnson of Austin, Texas; and Eric Johnson and wife Valarie of Houston; one sister: Patty Johnson of Spring; his sister in-law Maria (Donofrio) Caras and husband Steve of Lewes; sister in-law Dina Marie Donofrio of Lewes; in-laws Tony and Joan Donofrio of Lewes; a niece: Jacqueline Michelle Donofrio; a great-nephew: Anthony Donofrio; as well as many other nieces and nephews throughout the country; and his beloved canine companion, Angie.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m.,  Friday, Jan. 24,  at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Johnson Family, c/o PNC Bank, 17725 Coastal Highway, Lewes, DE 19958.
