Aliene Baker, loved to go to church

Aliene Baker, 82, of Gumboro, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

Aliene was born in Gumboro Nov. 10, 1931, to the late Arthur and Lillie Hastings Lewis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Arthur and Alvin Lewis.

She co-owned and operated a poultry and grain farm in Gumboro for approximately 30 years with her late husband, Linwood Baker, who passed in 1992. She also worked for Omni Bank in Millsboro.

She was a member of Gumboro United Methodist Church where she served as past treasurer. She loved church and spending time with her family and friends. She especially liked to go shopping and out to eat with her friends.

She is survived by a son, Darryl Baker and his wife Sharon of Gumboro; daughters Donna Baker and her husband Scott of Millsboro and Dawn Talley and her husband Lew of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Suzanne Riddle and her husband Jason, Shane Baker and his fiancé Jessica Lankford, C. J. Talley, Dylan Baker, and Colin Talley.

A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call after noon. Burial will follow at Carey’s Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Gumboro United Methodist Church c/o Edith Rickards, 34922 Pear Tree Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
