Red Hat Pirates invade Blue Water of Millsboro

February 1, 2014

The Pirates Chapter of The Red Hat Society had its first meeting Jan. 20 at the Blue Water Grill in Millsboro. Their luncheon adventure began when Captain and Ambassador BJ Young gave out oranges to prevent scurvy on the voyage ahead. Following lunch the pirates invaded several of the antiques shops looking for buried treasures. The crew came from Delmar and Milford with some traveling from as far as Westminster, Md., to attend.

The Pirates of the RHS Only! have their own Facebook group. The group is open to any adventurous woman 21 years of age or older who is a member of the Red Hat Society. Bus trips and other outings are planned during the year.

Unlike the regular chapters of The Red Hat Society, the Pirates Chapter will only meet twice a year with occasional gatherings during the year. It is a chartered chapter of The Red Hat Society and has become quite popular and grown quickly, with Delaware and New Jersey supporting chapters of their own.  This chapter was formed on Talk Like a Pirate Day in September 2013.  They dress as pirates wearing the red and purple colors on their heads, a chapter badge and RHS official logo pins.

Information on events in the neighboring five states can be found in a free newsletter by contacting Young at bjy324@verizon.net, 302-945-1936.  Learn more at www.redhatsociety.com.
