Scooter rules being refined in Rehoboth

January 31, 2014

This week the Rehoboth Beach Streets and Transportation Committee met. With all of the controversy associated with the Rehoboth scooter rules adopted last year, I was thrilled to see a lesson learned session. The committee did a great job of discussing the positives and negatives of the current ordinance.

Overall, I feel that the scooter program works extremely well. However some tweaking is certainly needed. I would suggest the following tweaks:

City property owners receive a free parking permit as they do with car permits. This would probably cause the current lawsuit happening against the city to go away and save the city thousands of dollars in legal expenses!

Motorcycle spaces on Rehoboth Avenue should be converted to scooter parking.

Hours for scooter permits should be aligned with the hours for car permits.

I live in town and own a scooter. I appreciate the committee’s goal of making the scooter rules as fair and workable as possible.
