Wallace H. Shifflett Sr., enjoyed his workshop

Wallace "Wally" H. Shifflett Sr., 90, of Millsboro, formerly of Baltimore, Md., went home to be with the Lord Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

Mr. Shifflett was born in Harrisonburg, Va. April 5, 1923, son of the late Ellis and Esther (Perry) Shifflett. He retired from Freight Drivers Local 557 in Baltimore.

Wally had been a very active friend of Bill W. for 49 years. Mr. Shifflett was also an active member of the Oak Orchard Community Church in Oak Orchard. Wally was a friend and helper to anyone and everyone. He was the anchor to the family while his beloved wife was the glue that held everything in place. Wally also was a handyman who enjoyed working in his workshop. Mr. Shifflett will be remembered as a faithful man who loved the Lord and as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all.

He is survived by his loving wife who would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary Feb. 3, Veronica (Payne) Shifflett; six children, Pastor Wallace H. Shifflett Jr. and his wife JoAnn of Victoria, Va., Sandra J. Kramer of Millsboro, Charles L. Shifflett and his wife Dorothy of Delmar, Terry Shifflett and his wife, Rogette of Roxana, Robert Nery and his wife Pam of Stormville, N.Y. and Helen Coker of Cumberland, Md. Wally is also survived by 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at Oak Orchard Community Church, 32615 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Wally's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
