Vernon D. McLane, retired salesman

Vernon D. McLane, 79 of Lewes, formerly of York, Pa., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at his home and was united with his Lord and Savior.

Vernon was born in York in 1934, son of the late Uriah and Dorothy McLane. Vernon was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1955-59.

He retired as a tire salesman, where he had won top sales with Phillips & Anderson Tire Company in Colorado which provided him and his wife with a trip to Hawaii. After moving to Delaware, Vernon worked at Rehoboth Auto Repair until his illness in 2007 and was a member of Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes. Mr. McLane enjoyed reading and was an avid sports fan with a true passion for any type of car racing.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Gloria, Ronald, Jack and Gail. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Linda; two daughters; a grandson, Joshua and three brothers, Ray, Lester and Lloyd.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where the funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
