Snowplow damages Rehoboth Boardwalk

February 7, 2014

In an effort to remove snow and ice from the Boardwalk, the city’s snowplow scraped numerous boards near the Rehoboth Avenue, damaging many of them.

City Manager Sharon Lynn said the Boardwalk will be repaired. She did not offer a timetable, but she said the boards would probably be replaced within the next month.

Commissioner Stan Mills, who championed the rebuilding of the Boardwalk in 2009, said, workers tried to remove snow out of concern for the Polar Bears, who held the annual Lewes Polar Bear Plunge in Rehoboth last weekend. "It indicates to me that we need a better policy on how to maintain the Boardwalk because we’re very interested in maintaining it. I think it’s a point of future conversation about future mainainance overall,” Mills said.
