We must prohibit illegal animal adoption

February 23, 2014

I would like to advocate that it should be illegal to give animals away on craigslist. Animals are abused, tortured, and killed every day and craigslist has become a haven for perpetrators of these crimes to obtain their next victims.

More and more horror stories are coming to light about animals given away on craigslist that are mistreated and/or killed.

Perhaps none more famous than the story of Puppy Doe, a one-year-old Pit Bull who was tortured in a medieval style manner; all of his limbs were dislocated. He was burned, stabbed in the eye, and left for dead in Quincy, Mass in August of 2012. By the time he was found and brought to the vet, he had to be humanely euthanized.

These defenseless animals are being given away on craigslist to complete strangers, with no mandated background checks or any follow up to guarantee the animal's safety. The only way to stop this is to enact a law that prohibits the free exchange of animals on craigslist.org.
