Rehoboth mayor should take Ford’s Lead

February 21, 2014

Last week Jim Ford announced that he would not run for Mayor of Lewes after serving in that capacity for 22 years.  He must have felt that 22 years is enough.  I agree.  Although Jim made great contributions to the City of Lewes, no human being can stay current, control the stress that comes with the job and remain objective for so long. Just imagine the changes in the world since 1990.

Sam Cooper, mayor of Rehoboth Beach for the last 24 years, should take Jim Ford’s lead and retire at the end of his current term.  Mayor Cooper, like Jim Ford, has done good things for the City of Rehoboth Beach, however 24 years is far too long for anyone to hold elected office anywhere.

It is time for Rehoboth Beach to have term limits for its elected officials.
