Don Ira Mawson, retired truck driver

Don Ira Mawson, 76, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014.

He was born in Frederick, Md., May 27, 1937, son of the late Arthur J. and Edna V. (Stunkle) Mawson. Don was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955-59.

Mr. Mawson retired in 1998 as a truck driver working with Chemical Leaman Tank Lines and ending his career with Schneider National Trucking Inc. Don enjoyed model R/C planes, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Bonnie J. (Thompson) Mawson; a son, Jay (Alisa) Mawson of Magnolia; two daughters, Dawn Mawson of Millsboro and Donna (Ron) Stewart of Cape Coral, Fla.; three grandchildren, Matthew Gannon, Jessie Huss and Zachary Mawson; and a great-grandson, Landon Arroyo.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, March 1, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may visit after 11 a.m. Interment will be held privately at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Don’s name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 28467 Dupont Blvd., Ste 6, Millsboro, DE 19966.
