William Lee Butler, Melvin Joseph employee

William Lee Butler, 75, of Millsboro, passed away at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes Feb. 19, 2014. Born in Lewes, Nov. 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Thomas and Eleanor Atkins Butler.

He was married to Priscilla Shockley April 30, 1965. He attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a long time employee of the Melvin Joseph Construction Company, serving over 41 years, and was still actively employed full time at the time of his passing. He was a heavy equipment operator, a load operator, and had served as a foreman at times during his career. He possessed an excellent work ethic and was beloved by his peers.

He was a NASCAR fan, liked to fish and work with computers. He was a master tinkerer and there weren’t many things he could not fix.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Randy Butler of Millsboro and Michelle Short of Golden City, Mo. He is also survived by a sister: Virginia Butler of the Washington, D.C. area; and four grandchildren.

A graveside service is planned at the Millsboro Cemetery Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. The Rev. James Van Der Wall is officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Tunnell Cancer Center, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
