Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary selling Flags for Heroes sponsorships

March 3, 2014

The second annual Flags for Heroes sponsorship campaign is under way for the Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club. The $50 flag sponsorships honor veterans and those currently serving, first responders and personal heroes. The flags will be displayed over Memorial Day weekend on the front lawn of Cape Henlopen High School.

The Rotarians sold almost 300 sponsorships in last year’s initial campaign, which created a powerful display of patriotism to anyone travelling on Kings Highway in Lewes. Since most flags were sold to friends and families last year, the Rotary invites the Lewes-Rehoboth community to participate this year.

This year’s goal is 500 flag sponsorships. Rotarians, with the assistance of Cape Henlopen High School’s JROTC cadets, will again set up the flags.

Proceeds from sponsorships go to supporting first responders and military organizations, and scholarships to students participating in ROTC programs in college.

“It’s a great way to honor a loved one who served,” said Rotarian Richard Jundt, who along with Vic Amey developed the club’s campaign. “We had so many people last year who just came and walked through the display. They treated it like it was an actual war memorial.”

The Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary Club has been serving the community since 1929 through volunteerism, and raising money for scholarships and community projects.
