Delmar’s Grover Adkins named Sussex County’s Firefighter of the Year

At the February meeting of the Sussex County Volunteer Firefighters Association, the annual Firefighter of the Year Ceremony was held.

This year’s recipient was Grover Adkins of Delmar. Adkins has been a member of Delmar Fire Dept. for 35 years. He serves as chief engineer, responsible for all maintenance and training.

Adkins also serves on many committees, has overseen the purchase of two new ambulances that will soon be delivered and has served as a top responder in fire alarms and Delmar Fire Department functions. Last year, he made 92 percent of Delmar Fire Dept.'s fire responses.
