David George Hopper, truck driver

David George Hopper, 50, of Georgetown, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was born in Milford Aug. 11, 1963, son of William Ivan and Betty Louise (Lauer) Hopper also of Georgetown.

Mr. Hopper was a lifelong resident of Georgetown. Early in his career, his passion for driving led him to various over the road and local truck driving jobs. He enjoyed dirt track racing and often could be found taking in a race locally in Georgetown and Delmar.

He was preceded in death by his brother Billy Hopper II; his maternal grandparents, George and Edith Lauer and his paternal grandparents, Ivan and Adeline Hopper. Mr. Hopper is survived by his parents William of MacClenny, Fla. and Betty Hopper of Georgetown; a brother; Timmy Hopper and wife Michelle of Bridgeville; two nephews: Tim Gordon and Bill Lancaster; two nieces, Jaime Gordon and Mandie Lancaster; a great-nephew, Kaden; and two great-nieces, Brooklyn and Jacey.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Tuesday, March 4, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may visit beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at McColley's Church Cemetery, Redden Road, Georgetown.
