Wilmington man, Ronald Shoup, dies at Sussex Correctional Institution

A man who was held at Sussex Correctional Institution on his fifth DUI offense died Feb. 27 while in custody.

Ronald Shoup, 48, was taken to SCI Feb. 20 in default of bail in connection with two counts failure to have insurance identification in possession, two counts driving while suspended or revoked, felony noncompliance with conditions of recognizance bond of conditions, failure to have registration plate light, fifth offense DUI of alcohol, breach of release and third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, said John Painter, spokesman for the Department of Corrections.

Shoup died at Beebe Healthcare at 9:25 a.m. Feb. 27, Painter said.

Shoup’s body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner's Office, as is standard procedure. Delaware State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation of Mr. Shoup’s death, Painter said.
