St. Lawrence St. house to be demolished

March 10, 2014

A house on St. Lawrence Street that was the center of a lengthy partitioning process is set to be demolished.

The house of 2 St. Lawrence will be torn down as soon as March 22 as the property has been divided into two lots: one to be known as 2 St. Lawrence and the other to be 1001 South Boardwalk.

Property owners 2 St. Lawrence St. LLC had attempted to partition the property in October 2011, but it was denied by the planning commission because of ownership questions about a 150 foot section of land east of the property line that included portions of the beach and Boardwalk. While the property was large enough to partition without the questionable land, the LLC stuck to its claim that it owned the land.

After an appeal of the commission’s denial, attorneys for the city and the LLC worked out an ordinance in August 2012 where the LLC would deed the 150 feet of land to the city in exchange for an approved partitioning.
