Cape May – Lewes Ferry Announces New Schedule - Morning Departures Adjusted to Meet Customer Demand, Evening Departures Added

(North Cape May, NJ)  Today, Cape May – Lewes Ferry (CMLF) officials announced that a new schedule will take effect as of April 1, 2014.  The new schedule does two important things:  it  adjusts the morning departures to better meet customer travel patterns from both Cape May, New Jersey and Lewes, Delaware and it reinstates popular evening departures.

The new schedule for the ferry operation:

Cape May, NJ                  Lewes, DE

 7:00 a.m.                          8:45 a.m.

10:30 a.m.                       12:15 a.m.

2:30 p.m.                          4:15 p.m.

6:00 p.m.                          7:45 p.m.

According to Heath Gehrke, Director of Ferry Operations, the changes were made to serve the needs of the ferry customers, but with an eye on operational efficiency.

“We have customers who want to get that early travel start,” Gehrke said, “but we did not have sufficient demand to offer the 6:30 a.m. and the 8:00 a.m. departures we did in 2013.  We will move our normally scheduled first four round-trips up 30 minutes from our historic departure times so that the first boat will leave Cape May at 7 a.m. and Lewes at 8:45 a.m.    At the end of the day, we will again provide the evening  departures - 6:00 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. – seven days a week.”

Gehrke noted that the new schedule continues to allow commercial and leisure travelers to get an earlier start on their trip.  It will also make it easier for people to use the ferry for day trips, with more time for locals and visitors to explore the attractions and adventures available on the other side of the bay and still return home the same day.

The current base schedule is effective through October 31, 2014. Customers who plan to use the Cape May - Lewes Ferry are urged to call 800 64 FERRY (800.643.3779) or visit us online at www.cmlf.com to reserve their space.
