Theodore 'Ted' Sloane, retired engineer

Theodore “Ted” A. Sloane, 89, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born July 4, 1924, in Newark, N.J., son of the late Adam and Josephine (nee Ladzinska) Szulczynski.

Ted earned a mechanical engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering in 1944 and worked as a product design engineer in New Jersey before retiring to Delaware in 1990. He was a friend of the Lewes Public Library, a member of the Elks and a volunteer at New Life Thrift Shop. He enjoyed gardening, crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Ted was a true handyman and could build or fix almost anything.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Elenore Steiniger in 2005. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise (nee Eelman) of 62 years; his four daughters: Cynthia Sloane, Claudia Winters and her husband Roy, Denise Selleck and her husband Randall, and Christine Blecker and her husband Leo; seven grandchildren: Jennifer, Patrick, Adam, Michael, Roy, Kimberly and Hannah; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Jonas.

A Celebration of Ted’s Life will be held Wednesday, March 12, at 4 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ted’s memory to the Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, DE 19958.
