Cape May-Lewes Ferry selling 50th anniversary bricks through April 21

March 14, 2014

Cape May-Lewes Ferry officials have announced the sale of commemorative laser-engraved bricks that will be placed at the entrance of both ferry terminals as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration in 2014. The commemorative bricks will be installed in spring 2014, prior to the ferry’s anniversary July 1.

“This is an exciting way for the community to both celebrate and contribute to the history of the ferry,” said Heath Gehrke, director of ferry operations. “With the commemorative brick program, our fans now have a special way to become a part of history and put their own stamp on the 50th anniversary of the service.”

Gehrke said the cost of a brick was kept low to make them affordable. “We’re not looking at this program to generate revenue,” he said. “Any proceeds that remain following the sale and installation of the bricks will be used to fund the Cape May-Lewes Ferry’s 50th anniversary public celebrations.”

Each 4-by-8-inch brick will cost $50, and buyers will have the opportunity to personalize the brick. The bricks have a three-line capacity for text, with a maximum of 20 characters per line including spaces and punctuation. In addition, replica and mini-bricks can be purchased as family keepsakes for $50 and $15, respectively.

Corporate brick sponsorships are also available using an array of two or four 4-by-8 standard bricks at a cost. Brick reservations are available now through April 21. The Cape May-Lewes Ferry will hold a ceremony to unveil the commemorative brick designs at the ferry terminals in late June 2014.
