Cape softball shows depth in scrimmages with Dover and Appoquinimink

March 13, 2014

The Cape softball team finally had some dry weather to get outdoors, swing their bats and make an early statement that they are for real with a 6-3 scrimmage win against a tough 2013 playoff semifinalist, Appoquinimink. The Cape squad defeated Dover by a 10-0 score in the same scrimmage.

"We have the most depth that we've had in my tenure," said third-year coach Jeff Evans. "Offensively, we are very versatile with speed and power."

Returning for their senior season are powerhouse Tiara Duffy, Stacy King, Katie Kolobielski and Alexis Berger. Returning to the mound are sophomore Riley Shields and junior Hailey Passwaters.

Assisting Evans for the season are coaches Allison Sullivan, Bill McGuiness, Candy Brown, Jenn Adams, Jamie Haxton, Felicia Schembri and the return of longtime assistant Chip Davis.

"The outlook for this year and the future is very promising," said Evans after the team's 9-9 campaign in 2013.
