DelDot preparing for latest snowstorm

March 16, 2014

With a winter storm just hours away, DelDOT crews are mobilized and are making storm preparations.
Crews in New Castle County spent Saturday pretreating roads with brine; a salt and water mixture.
In Sussex County, crews began pretreating the roads today.
In Kent County, forecasts call for rain before the snow, so crews have not pretreated the roads since brine would likely wash away before snow falls.
In areas where snow starts falling, crews will first apply salt, then when the snow is deep enough, begin plowing.
As the snow associated with this event will likely be heaviest during the morning rush hour tomorrow, DelDOT is urging motorists to delay their morning commute if possible, and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations if they must drive.
