Lily 'Rusty' Whitlock, devoted to family

Lily “Rusty” Whitlock, 91, of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

She was born in Bradford, England March 4, 1923. “Rusty” was a war bride who served in the British Fire Service (RAF) during the London Blitz in World War II.

Mrs. Whitlock was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire and the AMVets Ladies Auxiliary Post 4 in Smyrna. "Rusty" enjoyed needlework, boating, cooking and spending time with her family. She will always be remembered as a devoted mother and loving wife.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina White and a grandson, Gerhard WillemsendeBock Jr. “Rusty” is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Reese Whitlock; four children, Geraldine Hobbs, Valerie (Jerry) WillemsendeBock, Deborah (Jeff) Waugh and Roxanne Whitlock (Ray) Perry. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, March 20, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. The funeral service will begin at noon at the Long Neck United Methodist Church, 32051 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 21, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in "Rusty’s" name be sent to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
