Monthly Screening:  'In the House' March 28

March 18, 2014

For March’s Monthly Screening, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present the dark, tense and wryly funny “In the House” at 7 p.m., Friday, March 28, in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway in Rehoboth Beach.

Adapted from Spanish playwright Juan Mayorga’s “The Boy in the Last Row,” François Ozon’s “In the House” is a seductive and psychological drama about a 16-year-old student named Claude who suddenly develops a close friendship with schoolmate Rapha. Before long, Claude insinuates himself into Rapha’s house and practically becomes an adopted member of the family.

Observing and scrutinizing the family’s lives into essays for his French teacher, Germain, Claude’s work increasingly becomes unusually focused on Rapha’s attractive mother Esther. Germain gets further drawn into the gifted student’s story, but doesn’t realize that Claude’s intrusion will unleash a series of uncontrollable events and shocking repercussions.

Jo-Ann Vega, an Osher Lifelong Learning instructor and published author, will lead the post-film discussion.

Admission for Monthly Screenings is $4 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented), and $6 for future members. Tickets will be sold at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
