Irene Marie Ruffing, Gold Star Mother

Irene Marie Ruffing, 93, of Millsboro, formerly of Newark, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Mt. Carmel, Pa., daughter of the late Victor and Mary Lisiewski. Mrs. Ruffing was also a Gold Star Mother.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Irene enjoyed life and loved to travel, read, dance and sing. She will be truly missed. The family sincerely appreciates her wonderful neighbor Peter, good friend Maria and all the loving hands and hearts of Christiana Care and Delaware Hospice, who loved and cared for Irene Marie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maryellen; and two sisters, Jeanette and Mildred. Irene Marie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, William Joseph Ruffing; three children, Jack Ruffing, Janet Maurer and Richard Ruffing; three siblings, Lorraine, Martha, and Victor; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after noon. A committal service will be held at noon, Friday, March 28, in the chapel at All Saints' Catholic Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Irene Marie’s name to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
