A school bus ran off the road and fell on its side March 26 in Milton.

The bus, contracted by the Cape Henlopen School District, had dropped off students at H.O. Brittingham Elementary, and no students were on the bus. A mechanic was driving the bus to fill it up with gas about 11:30 a.m. along an icy Gravel Hill Road when the vehicle slid off the road and turned onto its side, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The driver, Jesse T. Fleming, 45, of Lincoln, was not injured; he was cited for driving too fast for conditions, Fournier said.

Fournier said one lane was closed while the 1996 Bluebird bus was uprighted.

Superintendent Robert Fulton said he talked to the contractor, Lisa Horsey, who said the bus was fine and would be used later in the day.
