John Felgenhauer, accomplished mechanic

John Edgar Felgenhauer, 77, of Lewes passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. He was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late John and Emilie (Kohnle) Felgenhauer.

Mr. Felgenhauer graduated from Lower Merion Senior High School in 1955. Upon graduation he joined his father's and uncle’s business known as Felgenhauer Brothers Upholstery and in the fall of 1956 decided to join the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic on the KC97G tanker aircraft. After four years of active service, he was honorably discharged. Mr. Felgenhauer continued his education at Temple University. He began his career as a mechanical technician for Philco Ford Corporation in Lansdale, Pa. and continued as machinist with Brooks Instruments LLC in Hatfield, Pa. He was an active member of the Little Zion Lutheran Church.

In his mid 30s he was also a part time farmer who raised cattle and hogs. When Mr. Felgenhauer moved to Delaware, his love of farming continued through his abundant vegetable garden. He was a great story teller and was always interested in researching his family’s genealogy. Mr. Felgenhauer’s love of everything mechanical showed through in his extensive hobby of model railroading. Mr. Felgenhauer was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a dear friend whose many family stories will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Felgenhauer was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Felgenhauer in 2004. He is survived by his son, John Felgenhauer and his wife LouAnn of Center Valley, Pa.; three daughters: Alycia Eckerd and boyfriend Mike Kohl of Collegeville, Pa., Kristie Lowery and her husband Daryl of Quakertown, Pa. and Deborah Kleiboeker and her husband Larvin of Hoyleton, Ill.; his sister, Louise Archdeacon of Lewes; eight grandchildren: Alana Knieriem, Kelly Boyd, Jonathan Felgenhauer, Erik Boyd, Kimberly Felgenhauer, Steven Lowery and his wife Jamie, Rebecca Klausfelder and her husband Bradd and Heidi VillaSenor and her husband Frank; and six great-grandchildren: Chelsea Klausfelder, Courtney Klausfelder, Brittney Klausfelder, Madison Klausfelder, Brayden Lowery and Rylie Lowery.

A public viewing will be held Friday, March 28, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m., at Heritage Chapel, 80 Stenton Ave., Plymouth Meeting, Pa., where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
