Richard C. Banks Sr., former Sussex employee

Richard C. Banks Sr., 65, of Georgetown, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at Genesis Health Center in Salisbury, Md.

He was born in Ocean View, son of the late Ruley and Birdine (McKeever) Banks.

During his lifetime he worked as a Fenwick Island police officer and also for  Sussex County Council, before becoming a contractor. He was a member of Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church and the Millville Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry G. Banks. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sandra; a son, Richard Jr.; and daughters, Tabitha and Ashley. He was a loving grandfather to his only grandson, Matthew, and granddaughters, Sabrina, Sirena and Cheyenne. He is also survived by a sister, Ruline Reitsma; and his canine companions, Bruiser and Diamond.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road in Ocean View, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery, Ocean View.
