Cape baseball holds off Lake Forest 6-3 in extra innings

March 31, 2014

Cape junior pitcher Kai Vitella went the distance for the Vikings in the 6-3 win over the Spartans March 28 at Lake Forest. Vitella struck out eight while allowing the Spartans just eight hits in the nine-inning contest.

"Kai [Vitella] kept a good-hitting team off balance all day," said head coach Ben Evick.

"I think we're getting better. We made some base running mistakes we need to correct."

Hunter Engel led the team with three hits. D.D. Gooch did his job as a lead-off hitter by getting on base four times and stealing four bases in the Vikings' victory.

"David Kennedy made a phenomenal diving catch in right field," said Evick.

Cape hosts Woodbridge, Tuesday, April 1.
