No one came forward to challenge Lewes City Councilman Ted Becker in his bid to become mayor. As a result, Becker will be sworn in as mayor without the need for an election at Lewes’ 7 p.m., Monday, May 19 Mayor and City Council meeting.
“I’m humbled to have been elected without a challenger. It confirms that I’ve been doing something right for the past 10 years,” he said April 3, shortly after the 4:30 p.m. filing deadline.
An election will be held for two open city council seats, for which three candidates have filed. Incumbent Bonnie Osler is seeking re-election, facing two challengers, Mike Mahaffie and Rob Morgan.
The election is Saturday, May 11.
Editor's note: This story has been corrected. Councilman Fred Beaufait is not up for election this year, leaving only two council seats and three candidates.
