John C. Ellis, 86, died peacefully Thursday, April 3, 2014, in Lewes.
John was born Aug. 2, 1927, in New York City, N.Y., to O.D. and Mary Tracy Ellis. He joined the U.S. Navy flight training program in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1947. He graduated from Yale University in 1949 and worked in Washington, D.C. until he retired and moved to Bethany Beach. There he enjoyed tennis, sailing, volunteering and a host of friends.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan; a son Dan and his wife Nancy of Annandale, Va.; and a daughter Robin of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He also leaves his brother Charles and wife Ann. He will be dearly missed by his family, including three grandsons, Jeff and Mike Ellis and James Gorman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 7, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes.
