A new Petco location hosted a grand opening celebration April 11-13, in Pelican Square shopping center at Midway.

The event featured discounts, promotions, pet adoptions and giveaways as Petco introduces its products and services in the Cape Region.

Part of a national chain, Petco is more than just a pet supply store, General Manager Samantha Bhujel said. The new store also plans to offer weekend workshops and pet training along with adoptions.

Petco is an adoption-first pet provider, Bhujel said, partnering with local adoption agencies such as the Delaware SPCA to find homes for cats and dogs and offer all the supplies any pet owner could want. Small animals, fish and reptiles are also sold at the store.

"What's great is when someone just gets a pet or just adopts an animal, I get to do that racetrack around the store and get them everything they need," she said. "I get to re-live that joy with them."

Bhujel said she has hired a team of associates who are just as enthusiastic about the pet-parenting experience as she is.

The new store sells pet furniture, clothing, cages, supplies and food, in addition to offering services, education and workshops for local pets and their owners, Bhujel said. Grooming is available with proof of vaccination or certificates, along with some vaccinations.

Luxury services for pampered pets are also available on the premises. "We do doggie facials, doggie pedicures and dental treatments," she said.

Offering so many pet services and supplies in one location should make pet ownership a little easier, Bhujel said, and Petco’s adoption-first policy should help more animals find a home in the Cape Region.

“What I think is so great about Rehoboth is how pet-friendly it is,” Bhujel said. “We try to keep the same vibe as a mom-n-pop pet shop with our service, but offer a more expansive line of products.”
