Missed school days to be made up in May

Making up 13 hours graduat­ing seniors missed during recent bad weather will mean a few changes to the May schedule. A professional development day previously scheduled May 23 has been changed to a full day for all students, not just graduat­ing seniors, said Superintendent Robert Fulton.

Seniors will be required to at­tend school all day both Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28 – previously scheduled half days. Thursday, May 29, a scheduled 3.5-hour half day will be extended an extra half hour for graduation proceedings and Monday, June 1, will be a full day of make up time to include graduation prac­tice and a senior picnic. With this schedule, Fulton said, the 13 hours needed for graduating seniors are made up. Fulton said the administration, senior class officers and the guidance depart­ment worked to create the new schedule.

Lewes mitigation team meets April 8

The Lewes Mitigation Plan­ning Team will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, at Lewes City Hall. The group will discuss the emergency operations plan, National Incident Management System training and a tabletop exercise with Sussex County. Up­dates will be presented regarding the recent flood risk awareness workshop and mitigation fund­ing status.

Lane closures during IR bridge inspection

Lane and shoulder clos­ings will occur 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, through, Friday, May 9, during the annual inspection of the Charles W. Cul­len Bridge over the Indian River Inlet. Bridge inspectors will be rappelling from cables. Addi­tionally, right lane and shoulder closures will occur on Route 1 southbound beginning Monday, April 28, and ending Friday, May 9, from Inlet Road to Turn Point Road. There will also be inter­mittent northbound sidewalk closures Wednesday, April 16, through Friday, April 25. No lane or shoulder closures will occur Friday, April 18; Saturday, April 19; and Sunday, April 20.

Lewes byways committee to meet

The Lewes Scenic Byways Committee will meet at noon, Tuesday, April 8, at city hall. The group will have a discussion about identified strategies for preservation and enhancement, specifically preservation and conservation priorities, and gate­ways and corridor enhancement. Cape school board meets April 10

The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thurs­day, April 10, in the cafeteria of Mariner Middle School.

The board will discuss a dis­trict survey protocol and talk about moving forward with plans for a new elementary school fol­lowing voter approval of a recent referendum.

GLF meeting RSVP deadline extended

The deadline for seating at the Saturday, April 12 annual meeting of the Greater Lewes Foundation has been extended to Thursday, April 10, at noon.

The keynote speaker, U.S. Sen. Chris Coons, will provide an insider’s look at current Wash­ington politics and issues. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the upstairs conference room at Lewes Public Library.
