Local Color by Sheryl Schmidt, a collection of plein-air oil paintings of local scenery, is showing at The Buttery in Lewes through May 18. A reception will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 27, during happy hour.

Schmidt is a local painter who recently moved back to Milton from California to practice her art and be near family and loved ones. She received her BFA from The San Francisco Art Institute and has studied with many of the top plein-air painters in the country. She will also be showing at St. Peter’s Art Show in Lewes in July, Rehoboth Art League in August, and the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Art Festival in September, among others.

Schmidt also creates murals, having completed two large vineyard scenes at a new winery in Sonoma, Calif., before relocating. She also works with realtors staging homes for sale with her art and painted furniture. Schmidt is also employed part time at The Buttery.
