The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation will present the Metropolitan Opera’s Live in HD broadcast of Puccini’s moving opera “La Bohème” at 12:55 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at the Cape Henlopen High School’s theater in Lewes. This beautiful production is the eighth opera in the 2013-14 season of The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series.

In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or production crew members while showing behind-the-scenes workings.

An exciting young cast performs in Franco Zeffirelli’s lavish production of “La Bohème,” the most-performed opera in Met history. This will be the Met’s 1,256th performance of Pucinni’s story of young love, a favorite of Met audiences since 1981. Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo makes his Live in HD debut as the passionate and penniless young poet Rodolfo, and rising Romanian soprano Anita Hartig makes her highly anticipated Met debut as his consumptive lover, Mimì. Susanna Phillips sings the flirtatious Musetta, and Massimo Cavalletti is the painter Marcello, with Patrick Carfizzi as Schaunard and Oren Gradus as Colline.

Italian conductor Stefano Ranzani leads his first Met performances of this beloved opera. The production features a cast of hundreds, onstage snowfall, a horse and mule, real food and a detailed reconstruction of a Paris shopping district.

Admission for The Met: Live in HD broadcasts is $22 for Met members, $25 for adults, $22 for seniors (65+), $15 for students (with ID), $15 for children (12 and under). Seating is on a first come, first-served basis (no reserved seats). The doors will open at 12:30 p.m., and there will be two intermission breaks during the live broadcast. Online reservations are available. Admission will be available at the door with payment by cash or check only.
