Audrey W. Samworth, Beebe retiree

Audrey Wallace Samworth, 78, of Bethany Beach, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014. She was born in Coatesville, Pa. in 1935, graduated from Coatesville High School, and attended the Nursing School Wilmington. She later became a phlebotomist at Beebe Medical Center.

Her passions included spending time with her family (especially her two granddaughters), her beloved cats Smudge and Kitty, involvement with her church, swimming and the beach.

Audrey was predeceased by her husband Richard E Samworth; and her parents, Jim and Margaret Wallace. Survivors include her son David of Bethany Beach, her son Mark and his wife Kathy of Wilmington; and her two granddaughters, Melissa and Julia.

A short burial ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 14, at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, 117 Old Kennett Road in Wilmington. Family and friends are welcome. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, May 24, at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, Bethany Beach.

Donations of used hard cover or paperback books may be brought to the service for the St. Martha's book sale that Audrey founded. In addition, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Anti-Vivisection Society, which promotes advancing science without harming animals.
