Norman E. Powell, retired contractor

Norman E. Powell III, 65, of Garnet Valley, Pa., died peacefully Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the home of his daughter Bernadette.

Born in Wilmington, he was raised in Boothwyn, Pa. since 1959, and resided on one of the last farms in Bethel Township. He graduated from Garnet Valley High School class of 1966. Norman has owned and operated Powell Excavating and Landscaping for the last 40 years.

He was a former member of Chester Heights Fire Co., past president of Delaware Valley Landscape Contractors, formerly on the board of directors of Suburban Contractors Association, former member of Delco Business Association and former member of the Northern Corvette Club. He currently was a member of the American Legion and the Beachcombers Corvette Club in Millsboro. He enjoyed going to car shows, gardening and birdwatching.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Norman E. Powell Jr., who died in 1999; Doris M. Poole Powell, who died in 2002; and a brother, Steven Powell who died in 1991.

Survivors include his lifelong partner, Jacqueline Carhart; four children, Jennifer Powell, Stephanie Redden, Norman E. Powell IV and Bernadette Powell; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Powell; and four grandchildren, Samantha, Norman V, Michael Powell and Lillian Redden.

Services will be held Tuesday, April 22, at 11 a.m., at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, Pa. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from  10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Aston, Pa.
