A 59-year-old Pittsville, Md., woman was killed in accident west of Millsboro April 18. The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m., on Conaway Road.
Delaware State Police say Dakota A. Price, 21, of Laurel, was traveling westbound on Phillips Hill Road approaching the intersection of Conaway Road when for unknown reasons he traveled off of the right side of the roadway into an open field. His 2005 Chevrolet Venture continued traveling approximately 250 feet through the open field then reentered onto Conaway Road, where it struck the left driver’s side door of a 2005 Ford Freestyle minivan operated by Janice F. Adams, 59, of Pittsville, Md. Adams was preparing to stop behind several other vehicles for a posted stop sign at the intersection with Phillips Hill Road.
After the violent impact, both vehicles traveled off of the west edge of Conaway Road and came to rest in the middle of an open field.
Adams, who was properly restrained in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained as a result of the crash.
Patrick G. Adams, 64, a properly restrained front seat passenger, was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., where he was treated and released for minor injuries. Madelyn E. Riekert, 16, an unrestrained rear seat passenger of the Ford Freestyle was transported to PRMC and later transferred to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and admitted for serious injuries.
Price, properly restrained in the vehicle, was transported to Beebe Healthcare, where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
The intersection of Conaway Road and Phillips Hill Road was closed to traffic for approximately four hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash. There have been no charges filed at this time, pending the conclusion of the investigation.
