Cape JROTC cadets volunteer for State Fire School burn treatment class

April 25, 2014

Cape Henlopen High School JROTC cadets (l-r) Melissa Quackenbush, Michael Littlefield and Joe Surface volunteered to be the victims at an Advanced Burn Life Support Class April 7 at the State Fire School in Dover. The cadets posed as burn victims in a session for first responders and hospital staff. Specialists from the Crozer Burn Center of Philadelphia, Pa., did the cadets' makeup to make them look burned, and they were dressed in burned clothes to offer a real-life experience. Each cadet was presented in a different situation to which the responders had to adapt and use their training. The responders were tested in each situation and proved very effective in their emergency treatment.
