Eugene E. Godfrey, retired doctor

Eugene Edward Godfrey D.O., 77, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at his residence. He was born March 19, 1937, in Red Lion, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Eva Byerly Godfrey.

Gene was a graduate of Red Lion High School, where he played football. He graduated from Catawba College, where he was the vice president of student government. He attended Duke University and graduated from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine specializing in anesthesiology, pain management and pediatrics. He thoroughly loved his profession,, especially the daily interaction with his patients and staff.

He never stopped learning about medicine and the human body. He enjoyed expanding his interests by reading, traveling, spending time with friends, and especially spending time with his family. His grandchildren were a large part of his life, cheering them on at their football games, lacrosse games, skiing and snowboarding, boating, jet skiing and other sporting events,

Gene was a good, kind, sincere and loving man. He was a quiet and a reserved friend to many. He was a caretaker. He will surely be missed.

Gene is survived by his two sons, E. Ralph Godfrey and his wife Donna of Carlisle, Pa., and Jeff Godfrey and his wife Shannon of Lancaster, Pa.; and five grandchildren: Megan C. Godfrey; Ryan M. Godfrey Drew C. Godfrey; Shane C. Godfrey and Tristen L. Godfrey. He is also survived by a brother, Phil Godfrey and his wife Pat of New Oxford, Pa.; as well as one other brother and sister.
