Jewelry artist to the stars at Ellen Rice Gallery May 3

April 30, 2014

Jewelry artist Lauren Hoehn, designer of bracelets, necklaces and rings often worn by Hollywood celebrities at red carpet affairs, will show her newest creations at the Ellen Rice Gallery in Ocean View.

Hoehn will be at the gallery from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 3, to debut new creations, talk about her work and take custom orders.

The artisan grew up near the Delaware coast and vacationed on Delmarva all her life. Her parents reside at the shore, and the influence of the ocean is apparent in most of the jewelry she creates.

Though created on the East Coast in Maryland, Hoehn's jewelry has made it to the West Coast in a big way, recently being worn by celebrities.

A few weeks ago, a bracelet of hers could be seen on television on the wrist of one of the young female stars of "The Vampire Diaries." Alicia Witt of "Cybil" and "The Mentalist," Stephanie Drapeau of "Castle" and Camille Grammer of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are among other celebrities who have been photographed wearing Hoehn's bracelets in recent months.

"I was immediately attracted to the look and workmanship and beauty of Lauren's jewelry," said gallery owner/painter Ellen Rice. "When I found out how reasonable her jewelry is, I asked her if she would like to be represented by my gallery and happily the answer was 'Yes!' "

Hoehn has recently returned from one of the East Coast's largest gemstone conventions and said she is looking forward to showing Saturday's visitors what she's made from her newest finds.

"My color mixes constantly evolve," said Hoehn, "as I have a problem with 'not' buying more beads. So, new shapes and sizes are thrown in on a regular basis."

Hoehn weaves her jewelry using hypo-allergenic metals in gold, silver and copper with real gemstones, beads, pearls, shells and other materials. Despite the quality of materials and the amount of work and care that goes into each one-of-a-kind piece, her slim bracelets start at $46.

"I hope a lot of people will come by this Saturday afternoon and make Lauren feel welcome," said Rice. "This is a rare opportunity, and we're looking forward to seeing what she's created."

Hoehn is among new artists and artisans whose works are debuting over the spring and summer at the Ellen Rice Gallery. For those who can't make it to the show this Saturday, the gallery already has a small selection of her works.

The Ellen Rice Gallery is at 103 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View in the west end of the rustic porched building that also houses Country Wicker, 2.2 miles west of the carved Indian statue at Bethany Beach.

The gallery, which represents more than 100 American artisans and is the only gallery in the country to house the complete collection of Ellen Rice paintings and prints, will soon begin celebrating its 15th anniversary.
