Course begins May 17 at Lewes Public Library
May 5, 2014

The Lewes Public Library is partnering with Beebe Healthcare and the American Heart Association to offer a one-day Basic Life Support and First Aid course for students 13 and older. The course will be taught by Barbara Starr, an employee of Sussex Central High School who is also a certified registered nurse.

The course will focus on CPR and AED for adults, children and infants, as well as rescue breathing and choking relief for adults, children and infants. Effective CPR can double or triple a victim's chance of survival. The five-hour course will take place Saturday, May 17, beginning at 9 a.m. There will be a one-hour break for lunch, which will be provided by Henlopen City Oyster House.

By the end of the course, all participants will be BLS certified by the American Heart Association. The certification is valid for two years. This program is perfect for young adults just joining the workforce, especially those focusing on babysitting.

Space is limited for this program and registration ends Friday, May 9. Students will be provided with a manual they will need to study before the class. The manuals will be available for pickup at the library Monday, May 12. Students may register by calling the library at 302-645-2733.
