Surfriders give coast a spring cleaning

May 12, 2014

The Delaware Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation hosted another successful beach cleanup at Cape Henlopen State Park, collecting 60 pounds of garbage on the Delaware coast including countless cigarette butts and bottle caps.

Helping the effort were Surfrider members, the Southern Delaware Roller Derby Team and casual beachgoers looking to feel good after an impromptu stroll on the beach. Some notable oddities included two matching pairs of slightly used flip flops and a couple of bathing suits.

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by surfers in Malibu, Calif., the Surfrider Foundation now includes more than 250,000 supporters, activists and members worldwide.
