Former Olympian Carrie Lingo visits White House

Cape Region native Carrie Lingo represented USA Field Hockey at the 136th annual White House Easter Egg Roll. More than 30,000 people enjoyed an afternoon on the White House lawn surrounded by NFL players, Olympians, celebrities and entertainers. The first Easter Egg Roll was established by Rutherford B. Hayes and his wife, Lucy.

According to press accounts from the early 1870s, young egg-rollers would flock to the Capitol’s steep, grassy terraces every Easter Monday for an exhilarating day of play. Today, the Easter Egg Roll is the largest public event at the White House.

Lingo enjoyed the day and said, “The event staff were well prepared and organized for the wave of energetic kids. There were many activities for families, including yoga, egg dyeing, a family farmers market, story time stage, bee box lessons, kite making and concerts. I had as much fun as the kids, and hope to have the honor to go back next year!”
