Tidewater Charity Golf Tournament set for Aug. 11

May 26, 2014

Four Delaware veteran-related service organizations will be the beneficiaries of proceeds from Tidewater Utilities’ seventh annual Charity Golf Tournament to be held Monday, Aug. 11, at Heritage Shores Golf Course in Bridgeville.

“The four organizations selected have very compelling stories of how they support the men and women who have defended our country,” said Jerry Esposito, president of Tidewater Utilities Inc. “We are pleased that this event will help to support these organizations that each in their own way care for our veterans and their families."

Tidewater, which provides a wide range of water and wastewater services, including consulting, contract operations and maintenance, and bulk water supply, employs about 20 veterans in Delaware. The four organizations selected are:

• Delaware Veterans Trust Fund, which was created in September 2013 to raise private funds to assist honorably discharged Delaware veterans who are in financial difficulty

• Delaware Veterans Home, established in 2007 to provide long-term care services to Delaware veterans to uphold dignity and respect while sustaining and improving their quality of life

• Delaware USO, which lifts the spirits of America’s troops and their families by providing morale, welfare and recreational-type services

• Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, which is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes. This year it will be conducting its second Veterans Build.

“This annual golf tournament was created to help Tidewater give back to the communities it has served during its 50 years in Delaware, and we are very gratified to be part of this year’s event,” said Dave Skocik of the Veterans Trust Fund. “All of the money raised will be spent in Delaware to assist veterans and their families, and that’s commendable.”

During the last six years, Tidewater has donated more than $68,000 to seven different nonprofit organizations in Delaware. To learn more about this year’s outing, call Joe Cuccinello at 302-747-1307 or go to www.tuiwater.com.
