Police: Women exchange pool chemicals for gift cards

May 2, 2014

Georgetown police arrested two women and are searching for a third after they say the first two women stole pool chemicals and then returned them for gift cards.

Mildred Troutman, 47, of Millsboro and Lisa Greene, 34, of Georgetown went to the Georgetown Walmart at 3:10 p.m. May 1 and picked up several bottles of pool chemicals, said Lt. Lawrence A. Grose of the Georgetown Police Department.

They then took the pool chemicals to the courtesy desk where they exchanged them for gift cards, he said. The women continued through the store gathering various items in their shopping carts; they also tried to hide some items in a plastic bag and a purse, Grose said.

The women paid for the items with the gift cards, and they left the store.

Police arrested Troutman and Greene and charged them with theft by false pretense, shoplifting and conspiracy. They were released on an unspecified unsecured bond.

Police are searching for Joyce Longfellow, 67, of Georgetown in connection with the theft.
